THE LAUNCH PARTY
The Serpentine Solar Shuttle launched on the 18th of July 2006 on one of the hottest days in UK history. At 35 degrees in the park, it was sweltering, with temperatures on public transport claimed to have hit 52 degrees. The temperature prompted the inevitable ‘climate crisis’ debate in the press, with the Solar Shuttle being perfectly positioned as the antidote to the ills of urban pollution.
A perfect night for a maiden voyage, the private event was well attended, with over 200 guests ranging from politicians and environmental activists to architects, designers and the media.
